How did you decide to work for the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School?
The opportunity to work for Hurricane Island Outward Bound School happened when a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to apply for a new position they were opening up for an office clerk. I applied, got the job, and stayed for 21 years working in the Groups and Outward Bound Professional Contracts Departments (as well as an Administrative Assistant to Bob Rheault when he became the Acting Vice President and President). I left just over 4 years ago then this past September I was fortunate to have the opportunity to come back to work for HIOBS. It was not a hard decision to make. It really is a great place to work.
What is your role at HIOBS?
My title is Contracts and Accounts Receivable Administrator. I process and “track” the money that HIOBS receives and work with Geoff Scott with the Custom Programs clients.
What do you like best about working for HIOBS?
For me it’s been the people I have met and worked with over the years. I have often thought how lucky I have been to have had such a great opportunity to associate with such a diverse, skilled and dedicated group of people. It’s really been a pleasure.
What is your favorite or funniest HIOBS memory?
My favorite memory took place when I first came to HIOBS. As a group from the Group Programs and Outward Bound Professional Departments, we went to Greenville for a rafting adventure. We rafted 12 miles of the Kennebunk, which was totally awesome.
Choose one word to sum up HIOBS.
Life-Changing.
When you are not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
Being with my grandchildren.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I am afraid of heights but I participated in a couple of Outward Bound Professional programs where I was lowered over a cliff on Hurricane Island and tested out a zip line. It was a real challenge for me but I put my trust in the OBP staff and was able to do both activities.
